It seems to me that anyone claiming to be a scientist should have familiarity with Astronomy. It is perhaps the oldest science and has influenced Mathematics, Physics, Mythology, and Religions around the world. Most ancient mathematicians by trade were astronomers. More importantly, stargazing was perhaps the starting point for humans asking the question "why". I was first exposed to stargazing at age 10 by my uncle, a sailor. From then on, I began reading and observing. Astronomy opened my eyes to science and technology, literature and mythology at a young age and was perhaps the biggest influence in my education and career. If I had not chosen computer science as my field, it is possibly I might have majored or minored in Astrophysics if the college I attended had such a program.
My purpose for this interests page is to refer the audience to resources in Astronomy. Perhaps if I ever have a decent telescope, I might post observations in the future.
A planisphere is a map that displays the sky at any point in time. It is an asset to anyone not familiar with the celestial sphere that wants to identify constellations. Check out this planisphere that I created in Flash.
